Wed, 01 August 2012

Around 100 students of South Tyneside College’s Marine School gathered at The Customs House venue in South Shields, along with a large contingent of family members, friends, college staff, lecturers and other guests for the graduation event.

Solar Solve Marine sponsored two special awards at the event and the prize-winners were each presented with an engraved crystal pen stand and a cheque by Managing Director Julie Lightfoot.

The Deck Cadet Prize was awarded to David Bunce for being Best Student in Navigation.  David’s attendance at the college was sponsored by Pritchard Gordon Tankships.

The Marine Engineer Cadet Prize was awarded to Stephen Gallagher for Excellence in ETO Workshop.  Stephen was one of the first students worldwide to complete the new Electro-technical (ETO) cadetship and his attendance at the college was sponsored by Global Marine.

John Watson, Chairman of the Board of Governors, was full of praise for the students, the lecturers and everyone involved with the academic achievements and the success of the event itself, which was a further credit to South Tyneside College, South Shields Marine School and everything it has stood for and achieved over one and a half centuries.

After the ceremony Julie said, “The entire Solar Solve Marine Team congratulates David, Stephen and indeed all of the graduates, who have worked extremely hard.  We wish them the very best of luck with a long and happy future in their chosen careers.”
